LOCATION - Lat 30°02'08", long 95°25'43" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Harris County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12040102, on left bank at downstream side of downstream bridge on Interstate Highway 45 and U.S. Highway 75, 0.9 mi upstream from Senger Gully, 1.8 mi northwest of Westfield, 2.0 mi upstream from Missouri Pacific Railroad Co. bridge, and 11.0 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 285 mi².

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NAVD 1988, 2001 adjustment. Prior to Oct. 1, 2011 datum of gage was 63.89 ft above NGVD of 1929, unadjusted for land-surface subsidence (60.78 ft above current datum). Prior to Mar. 17, 1951, water-stage recorder at upstream side of bridge at datum 12.00 ft higher. Radio telemeter at station. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Low flow is maintained by wastewater effluent. Channel below gage was rectified in 1950-51, 1975, and 1981. No flow at times. Gage height associated with historical peak discharge is referenced to datum then in use. Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1875, 34 ft May 1929 (discharge, 26,000 ft³/s), previous datum, from information by local resident. Flood in Nov. 1940 reached a stage of about 32 ft, previous datum (discharge, 15,000 ft³/s), from information by Texas Department of Transportation.
