LOCATION - Lat 32°55'58.72", long 99°12'55.40" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Shackelford County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12060104, Gage located on upstream right bank on Highway 283, 1.7 mi upstream from Mill Creek, and 74.6 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA - 4,026 mi². ,revised. (Area at site used prior to June 4, 2009, 3988 mi², revised.)

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - Dec. 1923 to current year.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1164.39 ft above NAVD88. Prior to Mar. 3, 2023 the datum of gage was 1,164.09 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to June 4, 2009, gage at site approximately 1 mi upstream and at datum 1174.09 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to June 23, 1932, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Satellite telemeter at station.

REMARKS - Since water year 1939, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. There are diversions upstream from station for irrigation, municipal supply, and oil field operations. No flow at times. Some records listed in the period of record may not be available electronically.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in Sept. 1900 reached a stage of 38.0 ft, from information by local resident.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - WATER YEARS 1925-1938: Maximum discharge, 33,600 ft³/s Sept. 10, 1932 (gage height, 35.09 ft) from rating curve extended above 31,500 ft³/s; no flow at times.

AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - 14 years (water years 1925-38) prior to completion of Fort Phantom Hill Reservoir, 303 ft³/s (219,500 acre-ft/yr).
