DRAINAGE AREA - 5,697 mi².  
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR TX-76-2: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - November 1915 to April 1920, December 1923 to August 1925, July 1928 to September 1951, October 1961 to October 4, 1982, March 9, 2017 to May 8, 2023. Bridge replacement has caused gage to be discontinued from  May 8, 2023 to current date. Monthly discharge only for some periods published in WSP 1312 as "near Crystal falls".
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,020.37 ft above NAVD of 1988. See WSP 1922 for history of changes prior to Dec. 18, 1961. Oct. 01, 1961 to Sept. 30, 1981 gage at present site and previous datum of 1,027.77 ft NGVD of 1929. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Since water year 1962, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. There are many small diversions upstream from station for municipal supply and oil field operations. No flow at times.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 1, 1957, reached a stage of 35 ft., at previous datum; flood in September 1900 reached about the same stage, from information by State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and local residents. Other floods are reported to have occurred in 1876, April 27, 1890, 1932, 1941, and 1955. 
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Maximum discharge, 68,000 ft³/s Aug. 5, 1978, gage-height, 37.04 ft at present site and previous datum of 1,027.77 ft NGVD of 1929, from rating curve extended above 40,000 ft³/s; no flow at times. Maximum stage since 1877, that of Aug. 5, 1978.
