LOCATION - Lat 31°58'35", long 98°01'57" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Hamilton County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12060204, at downstream side of bridge in Hico City Park, 700 ft downstream of U.S. Highway 281, 2.7 mi downstream from Gilmore Creek, 4.9 mi upstream from Honey Creek, and 92.3 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 359 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Jan. 1962 to Sept. 1998, May 2014 to current year (daily mean discharge), Oct. 1998 to Sept. 2013 (peaks above base discharge). GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 977.46 ft above NGVD of 1929; 977.41 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Jan. 20, 2000, at datum of 982.46 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Aug. 9, 2006, water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage located 700 ft upstream on downstream side of U.S. Highway 281 bridge at same datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. Since installation of gage, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. At times flow is affected by discharge from floodwater-retarding structures controlling runoff from 202 mi² in the North Bosque River and Green Creek drainage basins. The City of Stephenville discharges wastewater effluent into the river above this station. No known diversions.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1880, 27.6 ft May 23, 1952, from floodmarks (discharge, 87,800 ft³/s, by contracted-opening measurement).
AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - 36 years (water years 1963-98), 68.6 ft³/s (49,710 acre-ft/year).
