LOCATION - Lat 31°00'06", long 97°29'32" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Bell County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12070203, on upstream right-bank of bridge on Toll Bridge Road, 3.3 mi downstream from Stillhouse Hollow Dam, 4.1 mi southwest of Belton, and 12.2 mi upstream from mouth. Prior to Feb. 11, 2016, gage located approximately 1,500 ft upstream on left bank 22 ft upstream from upstream bridge on Interstate Highway 35 and U.S. Highway 81, 3.5 mi downstream from Stillhouse Hollow Dam, 4.1 mi southwest of Belton, and 12.7 mi upstream from mouth.

Datum of the gage: 478.521 ft NAVD88 based on a Level 2 Static GNSS survey processed through OPUS, REF Frame NAD83 (2011)(EPOCH:2010.0000) ITRF2014 (EPOCH:2022.1089) and Geoid18. The survey was completed 2/9/2022 while occupying gage reference mark DS RM2.
Prior to 2/9/2022 the Datum of the gage was 476.58 ft NGVD29. (From Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation levels to a Santa Fe Railroad bench mark.)
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1877, 45 ft Sept. 1921, from information by local residents. Flood of May 13, 1957 reached a stage of 44.4 ft (discharge, 83,500 ft³/s).
