LOCATION - Lat 32°01'48", long 99°27'54" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Coleman County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12090108, 800 ft left of service outlet structure on upstream edge of Coleman Dam on Jim Ned Creek, 2.0 mi upstream from Salt Branch, 2.5 mi west of U.S. Hwy 283, 3.0 mi south of Coleman and Callahan County line, 10.0 mi northeast of Novice, and 14.0 mi north of Coleman.
DRAINAGE AREA - 292 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 2000 to Sept. 2002 (contents), Oct. 2000 to current year (elevation).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NAVD88. Prior to October 23, 2023, the datum of gage was NGVD29. Satellite telemeter at station.
COOPERATION - Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB), Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
REMARKS - The lake is formed by a rolled earthfill dam 3,200 ft long. Impoundment began April 1966, and dam was completed in May 1966. The top of the dam was raised 2.0 ft in 1975. The dam and reservoir are owned and operated by the city of Coleman. Records of diversions may be obtained from the city of Coleman, TX. The uncontrolled emergency spillway is 1,500 ft long across natural earth. The uncontrolled morning glory service spillway is 28 ft wide at the crest. A service outlet is provided for small releases through a 24-inch conduit. Water may be pumped from reservoir for municipal and industrial use. Data regarding the dam are given in the following table:
