LOCATION - Lat 31°50'48.0", long 99°25'28.9" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Coleman County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12090108, on right bank in city park, 1 mile north of courthouse in Coleman, 3.9 mi downstream from Bachelor Creek, 12 mi downstream from Hords Creek Dam.
DRAINAGE AREA - 107 mi². of which 48 mi² is above Hords Creek Dam.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1940 to September 1970. June 2015 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,676.81 ft above NAVD88. Satellite telemeter at station. Former datum of the gage was 1,676.83 ft above NGVD29. Prior to May 23, 1946, nonrecording gage at site 2,450 ft downstream at datum 6.38 ft lower. May 23, 1946, to Sept. 30, 1966, water stage recorder at site 1,250 ft upstream at same datum.
COOPERATION - US Army Corps of Engineers - Fort Worth District, City of Coleman, TX.
REMARKS - Since 1948 flow largely regulated by Hords Creek Reservoir (station 08141000) from which the city of Coleman obtains part of its municipal water supply.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1876 occurred in July or September 1900 and reached a stage about 6.3 ft higher than that of Apr. 30, 1956, at a point near the municipal light and powerplant about 4,750 ft downstream from present gage. Flood of July 3, 1932, reached a stage about 2.6 ft higher than that of Apr. 30, 1956, at the same downstream point. Data pertaining to stage of floods in 1900 and 1932, from information by local residents.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Maximum discharge, 25,100 ft³/s Apr. 30, 1956 (gage height, 21.50 ft at former datum), from rating curve extended above 4,800 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of 8,640 ft³/s and contracted opening measurement of 25,100 ft³/s; no flow at times.

Maximum discharge, 3,120 ft³/s May. 30, 2016 (gage height, 9.63 ft at current datum). No flow at times.

AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - 30 years (water years 1940-70), 8.68 ft³/s (6,290 acre-ft/yr).
