SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Sept. 1952 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 882.51ft above NAVD88; 882.17 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to July 29, 1958, nonrecording gage, and July 29, 1958, to Mar. 19, 1964, water-stage recorder at site 80 ft upstream at same datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1890, 40 ft Aug. 24, 1919, from information by local residents. Flood of July 2, 1932, reached a stage of 31 ft (discharge, 60,000 ft³/s), from information by Southern Pacific Lines. Information indicates that a flood in 1858 covered the town site of Sabinal. The stage would have been 70 to 80 ft, which seems unlikely. However, it is possible that a flood occurred in 1858 that covered part of the town site and was higher than any flood since that date.
