LOCATION - Lat 33°55'36", long 106°51'04.2" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.28, T.4 S., R.1 E., Socorro County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 13020203, on the right bank of the Rio Grande, .3 mile above the State Highway 380 bridge, about 1.0 miles east of San Antonio, NM.
DRAINAGE AREA - 28,435 mi² of which 4,052 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - Discharge and maximum discharge for the period 11/15/2019 to 12/16/2019 were revised on 2/8/2020—the timing and size of the peak event are based on a comparison with 08355050. Discharge unit values for peak event on 7/26/2020 were revised on 1/26/2021 based on comparison with Rio Grande at Bridge Near Escondida (08355050). Peak GH is not associated with the Peak Q. Prior to August 22, 2024 the datum of the gage was 4550 ft above NAVD88 (determined via DEM).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2005 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 4520.50 ft above NAVD88 as determined by a GNSS Level II rapid-static survey performed by the USGS on October 23, 2023.
REMARKS - Water years 2014-2015; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Water year 2016; records poor. Water years 2017-2019; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Flow regulated since Nov. 1973 by Cochiti Dam (station 08317300), 120 mi upstream. Possible regulation by operation of reservoirs on Rio Chama and by flood- and silt-detention reservoirs on Galisteo Creek and Jemez River (stations 08285000, 08286900, 08317900, 08328500). Since May 1971, flow affected by release of transmountain water from Heron Reservoir (station 08284510). Diversions upstream from station for irrigation of about 718,000 acres, several of which are downstream from station.
