LOCATION - Lat 35°10'43.21", long 105°06'31.69" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Guadalupe County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 13060001, in Anton Chico Grant, on right bank 2.1 mi upstream from Canon Blanco, 2.3 mi southeast of Anton Chico, 9.7 mi downstream from Tecolote Creek, and at mile 808.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,050 mi². (approximate contributing area)
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1342: 1951(M), 1952-53. WSP 1512: 1912-14, 1931, 1933(M), 1935-36(M), 1938(P), 1939-40, 1941-42(M), 1945(M), 1946(P). WSP 1712: 1942(P).
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1910 to May 1916, October 1916 to September 1924, August to December 1925, January 1927 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1312.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 5,130 ft above NGVD of 1929, from river-profile map. See WSP 1732 for history of changes prior to June 21, 1951.
REMARKS - Water years 2014-2019; records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Diversions upstream from station for irrigation of about 4,900 acres, 1959 determinations, upstream and downstream from station. Acequia del Bodo Juan Paiz (no measurements made during the water year) diverts water 8 mi upstream from gage and bypasses this station on left bank; ditch flow not included in record measurements made at point opposite regular gage. A portion of this flow may be returned to the river about 5.0 mi downstream. No flow at times some years.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - The greatest flood since 1879 occurred Sept. 29, 1904, discharge about 73,000 ft³/s, from information by a local resident.
