08447020 Independence Creek near Sheffield, TX
LOCATION - Lat 30°27'02.7", long 101°43'54.9" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Terrell County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 13070010, on left bank 0.6 mi. downstream from Joe Chandler Ranch Headquarters, 0.8 mi upstream from mouth, 5.9 mi downstream from bridge on FM 1217, and 17.0 mi southeast of Sheffield.
DRAINAGE AREA - 763 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Prior to Jan. 27, 2022 datum of the gage was listed as 1883.0 above NGVD29, and was found to be in error greater than the listed accuracy. The correct datum of the gage prior to Jan. 27, 2022 was 1883.89 ft. above NGVD29, as determined by a a differential levels survey from RM5 at the new gage location (645 ft. downstream from old gage location) to RM1 at the old gage location and a subsequent NAVD88 to NGVD29 conversion of RM1 elevation at the old gage location.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Jan. 1974 to Sept. 1985, Aug. 2002 to current year. Site was discontinued due to sequestration from July 15, 2013 to Aug. 22, 2013.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of the gage is 1878.56 ft. above NAVD88. Prior to  Jan 27, 2022 the gage was located 645 ft. upstream and datum of the gage was 1183.89 ft. above NGVD29. Satellite telemeter at station.
COOPERATION - Texas Water Development Board, TWDB and USGS - Federal Priority Streamgages
REMARKS - The Chandler Estate and the Roden Ranch have permits to divert 243 and 530 acre-ft annually, respectively.
