09151500 ESCALANTE CREEK NEAR DELTA, CO.
LOCATION - Lat 38°45'25.00", long 108°15'35.40" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.08, T.15 S., R.97 W., Delta County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 14020005, gages on downstream side county bridge, gage house on right bank wing wall, 0.2 mi upstream from mouth, and 10.5 mi west of Delta.
DRAINAGE AREA - 209 mi².  
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1313: 1923 (monthly runoff). WDR CO-84-2: 1979. July 2021: Datum of gage, April 10, 2021.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1922 to September 1923, May 1976 to September 1989, April 2021 to current year.
GAGE - Since April 9, 2021 a water-stage recorder has been mounted on the downstream side of the county road bridge, the crest-stage gage under the bridge on the REW, and the satellite telemetry and recording device are mounted on the REW concrete wingwall. Datum of gage is 4,831 ft above NAVD of 1988, from digital map. Prior to September 1923, nonrecording gage at different datum operated by State Engineer of Colorado. Prior to Apr. 9, 2021, site was on left bank 70 feet upstream from bridge.
COOPERATION - This gage is part of the Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) network.
REMARKS - Water year 2021; no estimated daily discharges. Records poor. Water year 2022; records fair except for flows above 400 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2023; records fair except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Diversions upstream for irrigation. Several observations of specific conductance and water temperature were obtained and are published elsewhere in the U.S.G.S. Water Resources Data Reports, Volume 2 (1983-1989).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 2,050 ft³/s, July 24, 1977, gage height, 8.54 ft, from floodmarks, from rating curve extended above 320 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow.
