LOCATION - Lat 38°18'25", long 111°31'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.07, T.29 S., R.4 E., Wayne County, UT, Hydrologic Unit 14070003, on left bank 150 ft upstream of county road bridge, 1.2 mi downstream of Pine Creek, and 2.9 mi southeast of Bicknell.
DRAINAGE AREA - 751 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR UT-78-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1909 to December 1912 (published as "near Thurber") October 1937 to September 1958 (1944-46, fragmentary), October 1976 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 6,888.28 ft above NAVD of 1988 from a Level II GNSS survey conducted on April 22, 2021. May 1909 to December 1912, staff gage near present site. October 1937 to June 28, 1949, staff gages on two canals and river station about 0.25 mi downstream. June 28, 1949 to April 29, 1958, water-stage recorders on river and canal site. April 29 to September 30, 1958, staff gage on river at site 600 ft downstream of water-stage recorder. Gages prior to 1976 at different datums. October 1, 1976 to April 2, 1990, water-stage recorder at site about 150 ft downstream at datum 3.00 ft higher.
REMARKS - Records generally good except estimated discharges which are fair to poor. Diversions for irrigation of about 10,600, acres upstream of station. Some regulation of flow by Fish Lake, Johnson, Forsyth, and Mill Meadow Reservoirs (combined capacity about 232,000 acre-ft).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 1,200 ft³/s, Apr 4, 1942, gage height, 5.8 ft, site and datum then in use, from flood marks and rating curve extended above 700 ft³/s, maximum gage height, 7.59 ft Apr 24, 1998; minimum recorded instantaneous discharge, 14 ft³/s, Jul 19, 2016.
