LOCATION - Lat 36°44'15.27", long 108°15'01.21" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, San Juan County, NM, Hydrologic Unit 14080105, mounted on right culvert 30 ft upstream from U.S. Highway 64 in Farmington, and 800 ft upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 583 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1243: 1944-45. WSP 1313: 1943-44(M), 1946-50(M). WSP 1733: 1951(M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1938 to Sept. 2003, June 2005 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 5,210 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, from river-profile map. Prior to July 28, 1978, at elevation 1.0 ft higher. Dec. 6, 1990, to July 1, 1993, at site 1,000 ft downstream at different datum. Dec. 2, 1999, returned to site 1,000 ft downstream.
REMARKS - Water years 2014-2015; records poor. Water year 2016; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Water years 2017-2018; records poor. Water year 2019; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Diversions for irrigation of about 24,000 acres upstream from station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Major floods occurred Sept. 5 or 6, 1909, Oct. 5 or 6, 1911, and September 10, 1939.
