LOCATION - Lat 35°55'35", long 111°34'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 sec.05, T.29 N., R.8 E., Coconino County, AZ, Hydrologic Unit 15020016, in Navajo Indian Reservation, on left bank 3 mi downstream from Coconino damsite, 9.5 mi downstream from Moenkopi Wash, 9.5 mi northwest of Cameron, and 45 mi upstream from mouth.(unsurveyed).
DRAINAGE AREA - 26,459 mi² of which 368 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR AZ-03-1: 2002(M). WDR AZ-88-1: Drainage area.
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1947 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 3,979.2 ft above sea level.
REMARKS - Records fair except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Diversions above station for irrigation of about 32,000 acres. Some regulation by reservoirs above station (combined capacity of principal reservoirs, about 135,000 acre-ft).
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - A discharge of about 120,000 ft³/s occurred on Sept. 19 or 20, 1923, based on discharge at Grand Falls.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 24,900 ft³/s, Jan. 21, 1952, gage height, 20.7 ft; minimum daily, no flow at times in each year.
PERIOD OF RECORD - PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1956 to September 1970, October 1989 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Automatic ISCO sediment sampler operating from September 1990 to current year.
REMARKS - Suspended-sediment discharge computed from sample data and by interpretation of a sample based suspended-sediment and streamflow discharge curve. Record for days when instantaneous discharge exceeds 30 ft³/s from September 1990 to current year.
