LOCATION - Lat 33°44'58", long 116°25'19" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.12, T.5 S., R.5 E., Riverside County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18100201, on right bank, 0.2 mi upstream from Magnesia Spring Canyon storm channel, and 2.7 mi northwest of the intersection of Highways 111 and 74.
DRAINAGE AREA - 588 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR CA-93-1: 1989-92 (instantaneous maximum discharge). WDR CA-95-1: 1993, 1993 (instantaneous maximum discharge).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1989 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, and concrete control. Datum of gage is 198.38 feet above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Dec. 4, 1997, at datum 10.00 ft lower.
REMARKS - Water diverted from tributary streams for municipal supply in vicinity of Palm Springs. Water from the Colorado River Basin is imported for ground-water recharge and irrigation. See schematic diagram of Salton Sea Basin available from the California Water Science Center.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 27,500 ft³/s, Feb. 14, 2019, gage height, 15.60 ft, on basis of critical depth computations; no flow for many days in each year.
