10287281 Rush Creek Controlled Release below Gem Lake, near June Lake, CA
LOCATION - Lat 37°45'05", long 119°08'26" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Mono County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18090101, unsurveyed, in Inyo National Forest, in valve house, 100 ft downstream from left abutment of dam on Rush Creek, and 4.0 mi southwest of town of June Lake.
DRAINAGE AREA - 22 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1999 to current year. Prior to October 2006, published as Rush Creek below Gem Lake, near June Lake. Unpublished records prior to October 1999 available in files of Southern California Edison Co.
GAGE - Acoustic-velocity meter. Elevation of gage is 8,979 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map.
COOPERATION - Records collected by Southern California Edison Co., under general supervision of the U.S. Geological Survey, in connection with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission project no. 1389.
REMARKS - Spill bypasses gage. Flow regulated by Gem Lake (station 10287280) 100 ft upstream. In addition to the release pipe monitored by the AVM gage, there is a second "bypass" release pipe at a lower elevation; flows from this bypass pipe are not recorded. In 2018 and 2023 bypass flow was recorded from another release pipe.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge: E236 ft³/s July 5-6, 2023; E154 ft³/s, June 10-13, 2018, July 16, 2005; no flow for several days in April 2000.
