LOCATION - Lat 33°28'26", long 117°08'29" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Riverside County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18070302, in Temecula Grant, on left bank, at upper end of Temecula Canyon, 0.1 mi downstream from confluence of Murrieta and Temecula Creeks, 1.4 mi south of Temecula, 10 mi downstream from Vail Dam, and about 12 mi downstream from Skinner Reservoir.
DRAINAGE AREA - 588 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 981: 1927 (instantaneous maximum discharge). WSP 1928: Drainage area.
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1923 to current year. Prior to October 1952, published as "Temecula Creek at Railroad Canyon."
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Concrete control since Nov. 3, 1966; buried by sand Nov. 19, 1985, uncovered by high flow in March 1991. Datum of gage is 955.88 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Nov. 3, 1966, at site 100 ft downstream at same datum.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 31,000 ft³/s, Jan. 16, 1993, gage height, 22.5 ft, from rating curve extended above 4,000 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow; minimum daily, 0.16 ft³/s, Mar. 31, 1988.
