LOCATION - Lat 34°06'49", long 117°05'44" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, San Bernardino County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18070203, in SE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec. 4, T.1 S., R.2 W., 0.4 mi upstream from Power Plant No. 3, and 3.1 mi northeast of Mentone.
DRAINAGE AREA - Not applicable.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
GAGE - Discharge is computed from an AVM.
COOPERATION - Daily discharge records are furnished by the Southern California Edison Company, under the general supervision of the U.S. Geological Survey, in connection with a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Project (No. 1933).
REMARKS - Established by Southern California Edison Company. A water-stage recorder was installed on June 2, 1948. This station was operated by the USGS prior to Oct. 1, 1993. Since 1994, this station has been operated by the SCE Co., under general supervision of the USGS, in connection with FERC project No. 1933. Prior to water year 2000, station 11049500 was located 75 ft downstream from the tailrace of SCE’s Power Plant No. 2, several miles upstream of the present site. The station was named SCE Co.’s Canal below Power Plant No. 2 near Mentone CA during this period. The previous gage was taken out of service on Oct 27, 1998, during construction of the Seven Oaks Dam. Power Plant No. 2 was removed on Oct 15, 1998, again due to construction of the dam. The station was reinstalled at the present location, during July 2001, with records again furnished by the USGS effective Aug 1, 2001. No records were provided during the period of Oct 14, 1998 to July 31, 2001. Records for the former and current site are considered equivalent.
