11436999 Caples Creek Release below Caples Dam, near Kirkwood, CA
LOCATION - Lat 38°42'31", long 120°03'02" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.18, T.10 N., R.18 E., Alpine County, CA, Hydrologic Unit 18020129, Eldorado National Forest, on right bank, 500 ft downstream from main dam and outlet gate of Caples Lake, and 1.3 mi east of Kirkwood.
DRAINAGE AREA - 13.5 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1931: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1992 to current year. Unpublished records for water years 1971 and 1978-92 available in files of the U.S. Geological Survey. Records of release flows plus spillway flows for September 1922 to September 1992 were published as "Caples Lake Outlet near Kirkwood" (station 11437000).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and concrete control. Elevation of gage is 7,730 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map.
COOPERATION - Records were collected by El Dorado Irrigation District, under general supervision of the U.S. Geological Survey, in connection with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission project no. 184.
REMARKS - Flow regulated by Caples Lake (station 11436950) 500 ft upstream. Flow over Caples Lake Spillway bypasses this gage. No diversion upstream from station. See schematic diagram of South Fork American River Basin available from the California Water Science Center.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 437 ft³/s, June 29, 2011, gage height, 3.63 ft; minimum daily, 2.1 ft³/s, Nov. 16, Dec. 15, 16, 2008.
