LOCATION - Lat 47°15'01", long 122°14'33" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.01, T.20 N., R.4 E., Pierce County, WA, Hydrologic Unit 17110014, on downstream side of 8th street bridge, 3.5 mi north of Sumner, and at mile 4.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 477 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1216: Drainage area. WSP 1716: 1959. Oct. 1, 2015 to Aug. 22, 2017: elevation.
Gage height for Oct. 11, 2020 were revised on Jan. 5, 2020, based on removal of a single erroneous data value.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1945 to June 1971 (daily discharge records). October 2012 to September 2015 (seasonal elevation records). October 2015 to current year (continuous elevation records). Prior to October 1959, published as Stuck River near Sumner.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is NGVD of 1929 and is 3.28 ft above NAVD of 1988 (GNSS survey by USGS on Sept. 18, 2020).
REMARKS - Elevation record only. U.S. Geological Survey satellite telemeter at station.
Since November 1911, White River Flume (station 12098920) has diverted water from left bank 19.4 mi upstream for storage in, and maintenance of, Lake Tapps (station 12101000). Water is returned to White River 1.3 mi downstream via the Lake Tapps Diversion (station 12101100). Power development at White River Powerplant at Dieringer was discontinued in 2004. Since 1942, flow regulated by Mud Mountain Lake (station 12098000) for flood control.
