SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1970 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage datum is arbitrary.
REMARKS - Flow completely regulated by Salmon River Canal Co. reservoir 44 mi upstream (see station 13106500). Flow below the dam is derived from leakage past the dam and return flow from adjacent land. Several diversions, by pumping from the left bank below the dam, are used for irrigation. Flow past gage is partially regulated during irrigation season by small diversion dam 0.9 mi upstream. Salmon River Canal Co. reservoir spilled into Salmon Falls Creek May 11 to June 29, 1984, Apr. 22-30, 1985, and May 13-24, 2017, the only times since construction of the dam in 1910.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 7,500 ft³/s May 16, 1984, gage height, 18.14 ft, on basis of contracted opening measurement of peak flow, result of roadfill collapse approximately 13 mi upstream. Maximum discharge excluding 1984, 3,390 ft³/s Jan. 12, 1979, gage height, 9.60 ft; minimum, 5.8 ft³/s July 9, 1977, gage height, 2.51 ft.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Continuous water temperature data were collected from March 2016 to September 2018 (discontinued).
REMARKS - Numerical uncertainty is not currently computed for time-series water-quality records but qualitative ratings are provided based on professional judgment.
  • Water Year 2016: Records good.
  • Water Year 2017: The practice of using qualitative ratings to describe data accuracy was discontinued in water year 2017.
