15457800 HESS CREEK NEAR LIVENGOOD, AK

LOCATION - Lat 65°39'55", long 149°05'47" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.30, T.10 N., R.8 W., Yukon-Koyukuk Division, AK, Hydrologic Unit 19080404, (Livengood C-5 quad), on left bank 50 ft upstream from bridge at mile 24 on the Dalton Highway, 1.0 mi downstream from Mastodon Creek, 4.0 mi upstream from Richardson Creek and 18.6 miles northwest of Livengood.

DRAINAGE AREA - 667 mi².

REVISIONS HISTORY - On February 19, 2014, daily discharges and annual maximum discharges for water years 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012 were revised. They supersede figures previously published in Water-Data Reports WDR-AK-08-1, WDR-AK-09-1, WDR-US-2011, and WDR-US-2012. Previous or subsequent revisions to data presented in this report, if any, are available in USGS Water Data for the Nation at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/inventory?search_site_no=15457800.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1970 to September 1978, July 1982 to September 1986 and March 2008 to September 2015 (discontinued).

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 400.00 ft above sea level. Prior to Sept. 30, 1978, at site on downstream side of bridge at same datum.

REMARKS - Winter records may contain periods of ponded water beneath ice cover within the gage pool but with no discernible flow. GOES satellite telemetry at station.

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: May 2014 to September 2015 (discontinued).

INSTRUMENTATION - Water-temperature recorder since May 12, 2014. Electronic water temperature recorder set for 1-hour recording interval.

REMARKS - Based on comparisons of water temperature recorded by the monitor and water temperature variability in the stream cross-section, water temperature at this site is poorly-mixed.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 17.6°C, July 25, 2015; minimum, 0.0°C, on many days during winter and spring breakup periods.
