LOCATION - Lat 30°11'27", long 89°25'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Hancock County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03170009, St. Stephens Meridian, on the USGS St. Joseph Island Light platform, in the Mississippi Sound.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Water years 2000 to 2005; 2008 to current year. PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD.-- GAGE HEIGHT: July 2000 to August 2005; November 2008 to current year.
REMARKS - Gage height records good. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD.-- GAGE HEIGHT (July 2000 to August 2005): Maximum recorded, 9.04 ft, Sept. 26, 2002, but may have been higher during periods of instrument malfunction; minimum recorded, 1.00 ft, Feb. 15, 2004, but may have been lower during periods of instrument malfunction. GAGE HEIGHT (November 2008 to current year): Maximum recorded, 12.57 ft, Aug. 29, 2012, but may have been higher during periods of instrument malfunction; minimum recorded, -0.57 ft, Dec. 26, 2012, but may have been lower during periods of instrument malfunction.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Maximum instantaneous gage height = 12.57 feet on Aug. 29, 2012.

Minimum instantaneous gage height = -1.00 feet on Feb. 15, 2004.

INSTRUMENTATION - Submersible transducer and data-collection platform July 2000 to August 2005, November 2008 to current year. Datum of gage is assumed and may be different between the two time periods. Water-quality monitor July 2000 to August 2005, November 2008 to current year. The platform and all equipment were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 28, 2005. A new platform and equipment were installed November 20, 2008.
REMARKS - Specific conductance records good. Water temperature records excellent. Interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the instrument.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD -
SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum recorded, 49,000 microsiemens, Aug. 29, 2012, but may have been higher during periods of instrument malfunction; minimum recorded, 158 microsiemens, Mar. 8, 2003, but may have been lower during periods of instrument malfunction.

WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum recorded, 33.2 °C, July 24, 2004, June 27, 2009, but may have been higher during periods of instrument malfunction; minimum recorded, 4.1 °C, Jan. 10, 2010, but may have been lower during periods of instrument malfunction.
