LOCATION - Lat 37°08'12", long 80°26'19" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Montgomery County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 05050001, off entrance road to Round Meadow Country Club, 400 ft north of State Highway 661, and 0.5 mi west of Christiansburg. Owner: Town of Christiansburg.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 450 ft. Upper casing diameter 10 in; top of first opening 39 ft, bottom of last opening 446 ft. Drilled unused water well, length of casing unknown.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,980 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 0.43 ft above land-surface datum, May 1, 1990 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1953, April 1969 to current year. Unpublished record available July 1953 in files of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 5-minute record interval. Apr. 5, 1969 to Apr. 29, 2004, continuous strip-chart recorder. Prior to Apr. 5, 1969, one measurement with chalked tape by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division personnel.
COOPERATION - Records provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division.
REMARKS - Well is located in Elbrook Formation of Middle to Upper Cambrian age. Lowest recorded water level, 7.39 ft, is a result of the Mexico earthquake of Sept. 19, 1985, but is not shown as the minimum of record since it is an earthquake affected measurement. Prior to May 1, 1990, brief periods when water flowed over top of casing. Sharp fluctuation in water levels often result of seismic actvity.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, 0.02 ft above land-surface datum, Mar. 28, 1993; lowest recorded, 7.30 ft below land-surface datum, Dec. 5, 1969.
