LOCATION - Lat 37°31'45.95", long 78°16'12.22" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Cumberland County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02080205, 100 ft west of State Highway 666 and 460 ft northeast of concession stand in Bear Creek State Park. Owner: Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 202 ft. Upper casing diameter 6 in; top of first opening 59 ft, bottom of last opening 168.5 ft. Drilled unused water well, cased to 51.3 ft, open hole from 51.3 to 202 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 320 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF SHELF, 1.16 ft above land-surface datum, Jun. 24, 2008 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 2008 to current year.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 15-minute record interval.
COOPERATION - Records provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division.
REMARKS - Well is located in biotite gneiss of Paleozoic (?) age. Water level affected by magnitude 5.8 Mineral, VA earthquake on Aug. 23, 2011.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, 30.64 ft below land surface datum, Apr. 25, 2010; lowest water level recorded, 36.80 ft below land surface datum, Aug. 26, 2008.
