LOCATION - Lat 38°21'50", long 78°42'40" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Rockingham County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02070005, at Virginia Department of Transportation garage, 1.3 mi southeast of McGaheysville. Owner: U.S. Geological Survey.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 310 ft. Upper casing diameter 6.25 in; top of first opening 132 ft, bottom of last opening 310 ft. Drilled observation water well, cased to 131 ft, open hole 131 to 310 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,105 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 2.40 ft above land-surface datum, Feb. 27, 1996 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1970 to current year.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 15-minute record interval. Oct. 1, 1995 to Sept. 30, 2003, occasional measurement with chalked tape by USGS personnel. June 27, 1979 to Oct. 1, 1995, digital recorder, 60-minute record interval. Prior to June 27, 1979, continuous strip-chart recorder.
REMARKS - Well is located in Conococheague Formation of Late Cambrian age.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level measured, 57.73 ft below land-surface datum, Feb. 27, 1998; lowest measured, 98.97 ft below land-surface datum, Oct. 29, 2002.
