445416093141501 LN-SE-U Lake Nokomis Urban GW Study 0000867058
Sand and gravel aquifers (glaciated regions)
Glacial Surficial Sand and/or Gravel
LOCATION - Lat 44°54'09.71", long 93°14'20.20" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.24, T.28 N., R.24 W., Hennepin County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07010206, The well is located in Minneapolis, MN near Lake Nokomis. The well is located in a grassy area between S 23rd Ave. and Shoreview Ave. The well is located approximately 35 ft. west of S 23rd Ave.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 29.63 ft. Upper casing diameter 2.04 in; top of first opening 24.64 ft, bottom of last opening 29.18 ft. The hole for well LN-SE-U was drilled with an 8-inch-diameter, hollow-stem auger drill rig to a depth of 30 feet. The well is constructed of a 5-feet-long, 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40 PVC, 0.010-inch slotted Johnson Inc., flush-threaded well screen attached to length/s of 10-feet-long, 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40 PVC casing. The casing measuring point (stickup) was 2.85 feet above land surface when measured on 22 Feb. 2023. The open interval of the well is between 25 and 30 feet below land surface and the well is 30 feet deep.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 834.3 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: Black mark on top of 2-inch PVC well casing, NOT protection post, 2.85 ft above land-surface datum, Feb. 22, 2023 to present. The measuring point is a black mark on top of the 2-inch diameter PVC well casing, which was 2.85 feet above land surface on 22 February 2023. Elevation of the measuring point is 837.15 ±0.02 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on a differential GPS survey completed by the U.S. Geological Survey on 11 Apr. 2023.
PERIOD OF RECORD - Manual/discrete water levels were recorded periodically from 03 March 2023 to 22 April 2024. Continuous water levels were recorded every 1-hour from 03 March 2023 at 11:00 CST to 22 April 2024 at 10:00 CDT.
GAGE -
Continuous water level, water temperature, and battery voltage are measured with a previously used OTT Orpheus Mini, 0-10m range, pressure transducer. These data are recorded every 1-hour from 03 March 2023 at 11:00 CST to 22 April 2024 at 10:00 CDT by the same OTT Orpheus Mini pressure transducer, which has a data logger built into it. The data logger is housed (hanging) inside the 2-inch diameter PVC well casing, which is inside the 6-inch diameter steel protection post and locking well cap. The pressure transducer is powered by 3 AA alkaline batteries that are inside of the data logger communications rod. Data are downloaded manually and there no telemetry at the gage.
The pressure transducer and data logger were removed from the well on 22 Apr. 2024 at 10:00 CDT. Data collection for the USGS/UMN Lake Nokomis Urban GW Study have concluded and all data logging equipment have been removed from the sites.
COOPERATION - This site was operated from 03 March 2023 to 22 April 2024 by the U.S. Geological Survey as a monitoring well for the USGS/UMN Lake Nokomis Urban GW study. The USGS/UMN Lake Nokomis Urban GW study is a collaborative study between the U.S. Geological Survey, University of Minnesota, and Minnesota Geological Survey.
