LOCATION - Lat 46°56'52.89", long 94°39'47.87" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in N 1/4 NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.13, T.140 N., R.32 W., Hubbard County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07010102, The piezometer is located approximately 4.9 miles SE of Akeley, MN. The piezometer is located in an open area in the forest, between Williams Lake and Crystal Lake. The piezometer is located approximately 0.8 miles SW of the intersection of MN HWY 12 (Lower 10 Mile Lake Rd. NW) and 72nd Ave. NW.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 175.14 ft. Upper casing diameter 1.32 in; top of first opening 172.47 ft, bottom of last opening 174.95 ft. The hole for piezometer HT-175 was drilled with an 6.75-inch-diameter, rotosonic drill rig to a depth of 175.0 feet. The piezometer is constructed of a 2.48-feet-long, 1.32-inch-diameter, schedule-40 PVC, 0.010-inch slotted Brady Campbell Mfg. Inc. well screen, attached with glued PVC couplings with length/s of 20.00 feet of 1.32-inch-diameter, schedule-40 PVC well casing. The piezometer casing measuring point (stickup) was 2.66 feet (1454.70 ft. NAVD88, +/- 0.01 ft.) above land surface when measured on 26 May 2017. The open interval of the piezometer is between 172.47 and 174.95 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 175.14 feet below land surface.

This piezometer is screened in a glacial till layer, which is the confining unit above a confined aquifer.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,452.04 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: Black mark on top of 1.25-inch diameter PVC well casing, not protection post, 2.66 ft above land-surface datum, May 26, 2017 to present. The measuring point is a black mark on the top of the white PVC 1.32-inch well casing, which was 2.66 feet above land surface on 26 May 2017. Elevation of the measuring point is 1454.70 plus-or-minus 0.01 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on historical differential GPS data and an optical survey on 20 July 2017.
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Water levels were recorded periodically from 01 June 2017 to 11 October 2018. Water levels were recorded every 1-minute from 18 July 2017 at 16:14 CDT to 07 August 2017 at 17:34 CDT. Water levels were recorded hourly from 07 August 2017 at 18:00 CDT to 17 July 2018 at 14:00 CDT. Water levels were recorded every 1-minute from 17 July 2018 at 14:56 CDT to 31 July 2018 at 13:04 CDT. Water levels were recorded hourly from 31 July 2018 at 14:00 CDT to 11 October 2018 at 08:00 CDT , except during the following periods:

18 Jul. 2017 at 16:14 CDT to 27 Jul. 2017 at 18:43 CDT: deleted due to WLs being affected by aquifer test pumping.

05 Sept. 2017 at 22:00 to 06 Sept. 2017 at 04:00 CDT: due to transducer removal from well during well purging.

12 Sept. 2017 at 09:00 to 13 Sept. 2017 at 01:00 CDT: due to transducer removal from well and WL recovery during QW sampling.

GAGE -

Continuous water level, water temperature, and battery voltage were measured with an OTT Orpheus Mini 0-10m pressure transducer. These data were recorded hourly by the same OTT Orpheus Mini pressure transducer, which had a data logger built into it. The data logger was housed inside of the 1.32-inch PVC well casing, which has an aluminum locking well cap on top the 6-inch black steel protection post. The gage was powered by 3 AA alkaline batteries that were inside of the data logger communications rod. Data were downloaded manually and no telemetry or phone line were wired into the gage.

The pressure transducer and data logger were removed from the well on 11 Oct. 2018 at 08:00 CDT. Data collection for the Confining Beds "phase 2" study have concluded and all data logging equipment have been removed from the sites.

COOPERATION - This site was operated (2017-2018) by the U.S. Geological Survey as a monitoring piezometer for the Glacial Confining Beds Study. The well was as part of the Glacial Confining Beds Study during 26 May 2017 to 11 October 2018. The Confining Beds Study is a collaborative effort between the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, Iowa State University, Minnesota Geological Survey, and the U.S. Geological Survey.

INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature are measured with an OTT Orpheus Mini submersible pressure transducer accurate to +/- 0.1°C. Temperature differences are accurate to 0.1°C.
