GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 525 ft. Upper casing diameter undefined; top of first opening undefined, bottom of last opening undefined. Well CDN-07 is a community water supply well that was drilled on 06 June 2001 with an 10-inch diameter, air-rotary, and driven drill rig to 325 feet. Originally, the well was constructed with a 6-inch-diameter, open hole (no well screen), with length/s of 6-inch-diameter, schedule-40 steel well casing. Well re-drilled in 2014 (unknown date) with an unknown diameter, unknown drill-rig type to 525 feet. The well is currently constructed with a 6-inch-diameter, open hole (no well screen), with length/s of 6-inch-diameter, schedule-40 steel well casing. The well pump was also lowered to a depth of 480 ft in 2014. The well casing measuring point (stickup) was 1.55 feet (1390.55 ft. NAVD88, +/- 1.6 ft.) above land surface when measured on 11 Mar. 2020. The open interval of the well is currently between 16.7 and 518.9 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 518.9 feet below land surface (according to MGS video inspection on 11/5/19).
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,389 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: Black mark on top of 6-inch diameter well casing. Remove well cap to access MP1, 1.55 ft above land-surface datum, Mar. 11, 2020 to present. The measuring point is a black mark on top of the 6-inch diameter steel well casing, which was 1.55 feet above land surface on 11 Mar. 2020. Elevation of the measuring point is 1390.55 plus-or-minus 1.6 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data.

GAGE -

Water level and water temperature were measured with a Campbell Scientific, Inc. CS451, 0-67.0 ft. range, submersible pressure transducer nominally accurate to 0.01 feet and 0.1°C, respectively. Water level, water temperature, shelter temperature, and battery voltage were all recorded by a Campbell Scientific, Inc. CR300 data logger, which recorded all data quarter-hourly. The data logger was housed in a 14-inch X 16-inch grey fiberglass shelter attached to 10 ft. tall, 1.25-inch diameter steel mast. The gage was powered by one 20W solar panel and a 12v, 35amphr battery. Data were telemetered by an Sierra Wireless RV50X cellular modem with a Proxicast 9/11 dBi ultra broadband LPDA high gain band fixed mount directional antenna. Verizon Wireless SIM card.

An unheated Texas Electronic Inc. TR-525-I-01 rain gage was added to the station during 16 Apr. 2020 at 10:30 CDT to 16 November 2021 at 14:00 CST. The rain gage is mounted on an arm that was attached to solar panel mast, and wired into the CR300 datalogger inside the shelter. The datalogger recorded quarter-hourly rainfall data. Rain gage was nominally accurate to 0.01 inches.

The original Campbell Scientific, Inc. CS451, 0-33.4 ft. range, submersible pressure transducer did not have a large enough measurement range for this well. This transducer was replaced with a brand new Campbell Scientific, Inc. CS451, 0-67.0 ft. range, submersible pressure transducer on 16 Apr. 2020 at 09:00 CDT. This transducer was hung deeper in the well (66.8 ft. BLS) compared to the previous Campbell Scientific, Inc. CS451, 0-33.4 ft. range pressure transducer.

All monitoring equipment was removed from the site on 16 Nov. 2021 at 14:00 CST. This site has been discontinued for the USGS/MDH Pathogens study.

COOPERATION - This site was operated from 11 March 2020 to 16 November 2021 by the U.S. Geological Survey as a monitoring well for the USGS/MDH Automated Virus Sampler Study. The USGS/MDH Automated Virus Sampler study was a collaborative study between the Minnesota Dept. of Health and the U.S. Geological Survey.

INSTRUMENTATION - Precipitation was measured with a Texas Electronics TRP-525-I-01 tipping-bucket rain gage, which was accurate to 0.01 inches. The rain gage was unheated and uncovered during the winter. Thus precipitation data during freezing periods (about December through early April) result from melting of snow during warm periods and do NOT represent actual precipitation.

Water temperatures were recorded at 18.1 feet below land surface during 11 Mar. 2020 to 15 Mar. 2020 at 13:45 CDT. Water temperatures were recorded at 18.1 feet below land surface during 15 Mar. 2020 at 14:00 CDT to 16 Apr. 2020 at 08:00 CDT. Beginning on 16 Apr. 2020 at 09:00 CDT, the original transducer was replaced and repositioned deeper in the well and began recording water temperature data at 66.8 feet below land surface. Transducer was replaced and repositioned deeper in the well to record deeper water level data (draw-down) and a larger range of water level fluctuations during active pumping periods
