50026140 LAGO CAONILLAS AT DAMSITE NEAR UTUADO, PR

LOCATION - Lat 18°16'42.72", long 66°39'24.48" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Utuado Municipio, PR, Hydrologic Unit 21010002,

at Lago Caonillas Dam on Río Caonillas, 2.92 mi (4.71 km) northeast of Utuado plaza, 0.34 mi (0.55 km) west from Santa María del Monte Carmelo Church, and 1.85 mi (3.00 km) northwest form Hacienda Carbonell.

DRAINAGE AREA - 48.4 mi². (125.4 km2).

REVISIONS HISTORY - Datum of gage was previously reported in the site file as 820.3 ft (250.0 m) above NGVD29 and LMSL -OldPR. NGVD29 datum does not exist in Puerto Rico and the correct LMSL-Old PR elevation is 750 ft (228.6 m), published historical records did not reflect this site file typo. Revised to PRVD02 Datum of 749.66 ft. (228.5 m) in October 2022.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1991 to September 2001, May to September 2004, (March 16 to September 30, 1999, and October 2004 to April 2004, no records available due to repairs conducted by the Puerto Rico Electric and Power Authority (PREPA); inspections data available at Caribbean Water Science Center). April 2004 to current year.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder, satellite and radio telemetry at station. Datum of gage is 749.66 ft. (228.5 m) above Puerto Rico Vertical Datum of 2002 (PRVD02) and 0.34 ft. (0.10 m) below Local Mean Sea Level (LMSL- Old PR).

COOPERATION - Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

REMARKS - Lago Caonillas was completed in 1948. The dam is a concrete gravity structure with a total length of 815 ft (248 m), a maximum height of 235 ft (72 m), and a maximum base width of 195 ft (59 m). Non-overflow sections on each abutment have a total length of 603 ft (184 m). The dam is the main unit of Caonillas Hydroelectric Project, and provides 49,000 acre-feet (60 hm3) of usable storage for power generation at Caonillas Power Plant No. 1 located 2.5 mi (4 km) downstream from the dam.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum elevation, 841.29 ft (256.42 m), September 22, 1998; minimum elevation, 737.92 ft (224.92 m), August 8, 1997.

CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
