50032590 LAGO DE MATRULLAS AT DAMSITE NEAR OROCOVIS, PR

LOCATION - Lat 18°12'45", long 66°28'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Orocovis Municipio, PR, Hydrologic Unit 21010002, on State Road 564, about 5.97 mi (9.6 km) southwest of Orocovis, 3.85 mi (6.2 km) southwest of Cerro Pio, and 2.62 mi (4.2 km) north of Cerro Doña Juana.

DRAINAGE AREA - 4.46 mi². (11.6 km2).

REVISIONS HISTORY -

Lake elevation tables for water years 2009 to 2014 have been revised.

Datum of gage was previously reported in the site file as 2415 ft (736.1 m) above NGVD29 and LMSL-Old PR. NGVD29 datum does not exist in Puerto Rico and the correct LMSL-Old PR elevation is 2356.05 ft (718.1 m), published historical records did not reflect this site file typo. Revised to PRVD02 Datum of 2380.63 ft. (725.6 m) in October 2022.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1988 to current year.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder, satellite and radio telemetry at station. Datum of gage is 2380.63 ft. (725.6 m) above Puerto Rico Vertical Datum of 2002 (PRVD02) and 24.58 ft. (7.49 m) above Local Mean Sea Level (LMSL- Old PR).

COOPERATION - Puerto Rico Electrical Power Authority (PREPA).

REMARKS - Lago de Matrullas was completed in 1934. The dam is an earthfill structure about 120 ft (37 m) height, a top width of 30 ft (9 m) and a length of 710 ft (216 m), and has a maximum storage capacity of about 4,274 acre-ft (5.220 hm3) at top of dam elevation. The Lago de Matrullas Dam is part of the Toro Negro Hydroelectric Project; a project developed by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) for the primary purpose of generating electric power. Discharges from the power plants are collected by the Río Jacaguas which flows into Guayabal Dam, at which are regulated for irrigation of lands served by the Juana Díaz Canal. Prior to October 1994, published as Lago de Matrullas at Dam site.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum elevation 2,419.9 ft (737.58 m), September 10, 1996; minimum elevation, 2,375.55 ft (724.06 m), September 24, 25, 1994.
