LOCATION - Lat 18°04'38", long 66°06'26" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Guayama Municipio, PR, Hydrologic Unit 21010005, 1.8 mi (2.9 km) northwest from Carite Chino School, 2.2 mi (3.5 km) northeast from Central Hidroeléctrica de Carite Número 1, and 2.75 mi (4.4 km) northeast from Segunda Unidad School.
DRAINAGE AREA - 8.20 mi². (21.2 km2).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 3, 2005 to September 30, 2013; lake elevation and continuous discharge. October 1, 2013 to current year; lake elevation only.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, satellite telemetry at station. Elevation of gage is above National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD) of 1929, feet.
REMARKS - Lago Carite Dam was completed in 1913. The operation of the reservoir is controlled by the utilization of water to meet the demands for domestic, industrial, and agricultural purposes in the Guayama area. The dam is an earth fill with crest elevation of 1,806 ft (550 m) above mean sea level, with a structural height of 104 ft (32 m) and a length of 500 ft (152 m). The dam has a capacity of approximately 11,310 acre-ft (13.9 hm3). The Dam is operated by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum elevation 1,784.86 ft (544.03 m), August 23, 2011; minimum elevation 1,765.98 ft (538.27 m), August 6, 2007.
