Station gage imageSTATION.--03025500 ALLEGHENY RIVER AT FRANKLIN, PA
LOCATION.--Lat 41`23'22", long 79`49'14", Venango County, Hydrologic Unit 05010003, on right bank at upstream side of Eighth Street bridge on U.S. Highway 322 at Franklin, 1,000 ft downstream from French Creek, and at mile 124.4.
DRAINAGE AREA.--5,982 square miles.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1914 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1305. Gage-height records collected at same site since April 1905 are contained in reports of U.S. Weather Bureau.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and heated tipping bucket precipitation gage. Datum of gage is 955.3 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to January 4, 2023 the datum of gage was reported as 955.84 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to Sept. 16, 1932, non-recording gage, and Sept. 16-30, 1932, water-stage recorder, at present site at datum 2.00 ft higher. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION.--Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS.--Flow regulated by Allegheny Reservoir 74 mi upstream since 1965, by Chautauqua Lake since 1941, by Tionesta Lake since 1940, by Union City Reservoir since 1971, and by Woodcock Creek Lake since January 1974.
The 1-hour precipitation data for this station are temporary and will only be displayed for 120 days. Time series of 1-hour or cumulative daily values will NOT be available for retrieval following the 120-day display period. Although the instrumentation is calibrated at least once a year, the temporary classification means that documented routine inspections and other quality assurance measures are not performed that would make the data acceptable for archival, retrieval, or future use in general scientific or interpretive studies.
