LOCATION - Lat 40°22'45", long 76°01'59" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Berks County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040203, at dam on Tulpehocken Creek, 0.8 mi upstream from gaging station on Tulpehocken Creek (station 01470960), 1.0 mi northeast of Blue Marsh, 1.9 mi upstream from Rebers Bridge, and 5.1 mi southeast of Bernville. Blue Marsh Lake, 1268 Palisades Rd., Leesport, PA 19533.
DRAINAGE AREA - 175 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1979 to September 2016 (elevation and contents), October 2016 to current year (elevation).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers datum) and heated tipping bucket precipitation gage. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District.
REMARKS - Lake formed by earthfill dam with ungated concrete spillway at elevation 307.00 ft. Storage began April 23, 1979. Records from April 1979 to September 2010 use original storage capacity table, where capacity at elevation 307.00 ft is 50,000 acre-ft and dead storage is 3,000 acre-ft. Records from October 2010 to current use a revised capacity table, where capacity at elevation 307.00 ft is 42,800 acre-ft and dead storage is 2,560 acre-ft. Lake is used for flood control, water supply, and recreation. Figures herein represent total contents.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum contents, 54,900 acre-ft, Jun 28, 2006, elevation, 309.19 ft; maximum elevation 309.37 ft Sep 9, 2011; minimum contents (after first filling), 13,150 acre-ft, Mar 18, 1994, elevation, 279.88 ft.
