During winter months, cold and ice may
result in inaccurate real-time gage height and streamflow data.
Adjustments or deletions of this data can only be done after detailed

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
LOCATION.--Lat 40°18'16", long 74°41'06"
referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Lawrence Township, Mercer
County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02040105, on right bank, 300 ft upstream
from bridge on Province Line (Quaker Bridge) Road at Port Mercer, 2.2
mi east of Lawrenceville, and 3.5 mi southwest of Princeton.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Continuous-record discharge station August
1990 to current year. Miscellaneous measurements made 1923, 1937-38,
1942-43, 1945, 1981, 1987-90.
GAGE.--Water-stage, velocity and water temperature recorder with
telemetry. Datum of gage is at NAVD 1988. Prior to April 15, 2019,
published as gage height above NGVD 1929. To convert from NAVD 1988 to
NGVD 1929 add 1.11 ft.
REMARKS.--Records fair, except for estimated discharges and
flows under 10 ft³/s, which are poor. The canal diverts water from the
Delaware River at Raven Rock and discharges into Raritan River at New
Brunswick. Reverse flow (denoted by a negative symbol) can occur during
periods of heavy precipitation due to waste gate operation upstream and
inflow into canal downstream from gage. Gage is located at the drainage
divide between the Delaware and Raritan River Basins.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum positive daily
discharge, 222 ft³/s, Aug 22, 1990; maximum negative daily discharge,
-637 ft³/s, Apr 16, 2007; maximum gage height, 62.66 ft, Aug 28,
2011.

The water temperature data for this station
are temporary and will only be displayed for 120 days. Although the
instrumentation is calibrated at least once/year, the temporary
classification means that documented routine inspections and other
quality assurance measures are not performed that would make the data
acceptable for archival, retrieval, or future use in general scientific
or interpretive studies.
