LOCATION - Lat 44°00'47", long 73°10'06" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Addison County, VT, Hydrologic Unit 04150402, on right bank, 150 ft upstream from State Highway 125 bridge in Middlebury, 0.1 mi southwest of US 7 and State Highway 125 intersection, and 3.6 mi downstream from Middlebury River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 628 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 434: 1903-04. WSP 684: 1913(M), drainage area. WSP 1114: 1913. WSP 1207: 1929, 1931.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge records: April 1903 to April 1907, October 1910 to January 1920, October 1928 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 335.36 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Nonrecording gage at site 1,800 ft upstream at datum 10 ft lower, April 1, 1903 to April 30, 1907 and October 5, 1910 to January 31, 1920; nonrecording gage at present site and datum, October 1, 1928 to October 17, 1933.
COOPERATION - Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and USGS Federal Priority Streamgage Program and Groundwater and Streamflow Information Program.
REMARKS - WATER YEARS 2014-22: Records good except those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Some regulation by Chittenden Reservoir, usable capacity, 819 million ft³ on East Creek.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge since at least 1830, 13,600 ft³/s, November 4, 1927, gage height, 13.3 ft, present datum.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 11,000 ft³/s, March 20, 1936, gage height, 10.30 ft.
