LOCATION - Lat 48°29'03", long 122°14'31" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.36, T.35 N., R.4 E., Skagit County, WA, Hydrologic Unit 17110007, on left bank pier of bridge on State Highway No. 9, 1.0 mi south of Sedro Woolley, and at mile 22.3.
DRAINAGE AREA - 3,015 mi². of which 400 mi² is in Canada.
REVISIONS HISTORY - The datum of gage published as 15.46ft lower from 1980 to 2008 and is 15.46 ft higher.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1908 to Dec. 1920, February 1921 to December 1923, February 1975 to June 1980 (discharge). December 1998 to current year (gage heights only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is NGVD of 1929 (Washington State Department of Transportation benchmark). Datum of gage is 3.807 ft. above NAVD of 1988. Datum of gage Jan. 21, 1975, to June 1980 at datum 15.46 ft. higher. May 1, 1908, to December 31, 1923, nonrecording gage at site 200 ft. upstream, datum uncertain.
REMARKS - Flow regulated for power generation on the Skagit River by Ross Reservoir (12175000), Diablo Reservoir (12176500) and Gorge Reservoir (12177700), and on the Baker River by Baker Lake (12191600) and Lake Shannon (12193000). Small diversions for domestic and municipal use. Chemical analyses October 1975 to September 1979. U.S. Geological Survey satellite and telephone telemeters at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of about 1815 reached an elevation of approximately 54.6 ft.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum elevation since February 1975, 43.51 ft, Nov. 16, 2021; maximum gage height, 56.5 ft, Nov. 30, 1909, datum then in use. Minimum gage height observed, 22.54 ft, Sept. 5, 2017.
