  • January 22, 2018 - USGS Water Data availability during lapse in Federal funding

Due to a lapse in Federal funding, the U.S. Geological Survey must suspend those parts of its data collection and distribution processes requiring human intervention. However, automated reporting and serving of telemetered data will continue.

Users may note some degradation in the quality and completeness of real-time streamflow, groundwater and water-quality data from some reporting stations due to the suspension of field calibrations and adjustments, especially as high flows occur, aquatic vegetation becomes dominant, or ice forms in high altitude streams. The USGS will continue to monitor some performance aspects of its network using a skeleton workforce.

DRAINAGE AREA.--6,240 square miles.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--January 1902 to present. Prior to January 1910, monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1308. Prior to October 1939, published as "near St. Croix Falls."

REVISED RECORDS.--WSP 1115: 1929. WDR WI-82-1: Drainage area.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 690.04 ft above sea level, NAVD88. Prior to July 1905, gage heights and discharge measurements were used by Loweth and Wolff, consulting engineers of St. Paul, Minn., to determine the flow. July 1905 to February 1940, records were computed from power generation at the St. Croix Falls Powerplant. February 1940 to Sept. 30, 1979, water-stage recorder at site 300 ft downstream at same datum.

REMARKS.--Diurnal fluctuation caused by St. Croix Falls Powerplant 1,500 ft upstream. Gage-height telemeter and data-collection platform at station.

The water temperature data for this station are temporary and will only be displayed for 30 days. Water temperature instrumentation may not be calibrated, and other quality assurance measures may not be performed that would make the data acceptable for archival, retrieval, or future use in general scientific or interpretive studies.
