LOCATION.--Lat 43° 02'51", long 114° 07'55"(Rev.)(NAD83), in NW1/4 SW1/4 sec.30, T.4 S., R.20 E., Lincoln County, Richfield quad., Hydrologic Unit 17040221, 0.5 mi upstream from Byrns Slough and heading of Dietrich Canal, 1 mi east of railroad station at Richfield, 14 mi downstream from Silver Creek, and at mile 45.3 (revised).

DRAINAGE AREA.--570 mi², approximately.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--January 1911 to September 1972 (discontinued). Prior to 1955 (except 1913, 1921) irrigation seasons only.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Elevation of gage is 4,270 ft above NGVD of 1929, by barometer. Prior to Sept. 5, 1918, nonrecording gage at site 500 ft downstream at datum 0.92 ft lower. Sept. 5, 1918 to Apr. 13, 1920, nonrecording gage and Apr. 14, 1920 to May 20, 1954, water-stage recorder at site 500 ft downstream at datum 0.08 ft higher.

REMARKS.--Flow regulated by Little Wood Reservoir 30.9 mi upstream (sta 13148200), Fish Creek Reservoir (sta 13149700, capacity 14,400 acre-ft), and three small reservoirs on tributaries (combined capacity, 690 acre-ft). River above Silver Creek is dry a large part of the time because of channel losses and irrigation diversions above Carey. Diversions above station for irrigation of about 22,700 acres, of which about 1,000 acres are by withdrawals from ground water (1966 determination).

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge recorded, 868 ft³/s May 3, 1938, gage height, 3.97 ft, site and datum then in use; maximum gage height recorded, 8.60 ft, Feb. 21, 1956, from ice jam; minimum discharge recorded, 7.6 ft³/s June 24, 25, 1920, gage height, 0.52 ft, site and datum then in use.
