LOCATION - Lat 33°46'26", long 97°12'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Cooke County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 11130201, on upstream side of dam about 250 ft from right end of Fish Creek Dam on Fish Creek, 1.6 mi upstream from Bearhead Creek, 3.7 mi upstream from mouth, and 10.0 mi northwest of Gainesville.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 1967 to Sept. 2010 (contents), Oct. 2010 to current year. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: May 1968 to May 1984. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: May 1968 to June 1973. RADIOCHEMICAL DATA: Apr. 1981.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 0 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 0.06 ft below NAVD of 1988. Prior to Apr. 20, 1979, recording gage at site about 150 ft upstream at same datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically. The lake is formed by a rolled earthfill dam, 1,460 ft long. The dam was completed and storage began Dec. 2, 1966. An uncontrolled morning-glory type spillway with a 7- by 7-foot opening is designed to discharge 2,500 ft³/s at a 10 foot head. A 400 foot wide spillway has been cut through natural ground, and is located about 100 ft to left of the left end of dam. The dam was built by the City of Gainesville to impound water for municipal use. Conservation pool storage is 24,155 acre-ft. Data regarding the dam are given in the following table:
