LOCATION.--Lat 39°30'52.4", long 77°46'38.0", Washington County, MD, Hydrologic Unit 02070004, on right bank 220 ft upstream from bridge on Sprecher Road, 0.1 mi downstream from unnamed tributary, 0.5 mi southwest of Grimes, 1.5 mi upstream from mouth, and 2.2 mi southwest of Fairplay. DRAINAGE AREA.--18.9 mi2. PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1963 to current year. GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 354.07 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. REMARKS.--Low flows affected at times by withdrawals from unknown source upstream of station. The station is located in a unique type of geologic setting known as Karst which may affect conditions relating to runoff characteristics. Water-quality records for some prior periods have been collected at this location. U.S. Geological Survey satellite data-collection platform at station. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 459 ft³/s, Feb. 12, 1985, gage height, 4.45 ft; minimum discharge, 0 ft³/s, Oct. 1, 1977, as a result of regulation caused by construction work upstream from station. COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Maryland Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
