LOCATION.--Lat 40°46'02.1", long 72°59'37.8" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Suffolk County, NY, Hydrologic Unit 02030202, on left bank 94 ft downstream from Montauk Highway in East Patchogue, 200 ft downstream from outlet of Swan Lake, and 1.2 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA.--8.07 mi².
PERIOD OF RECORD.--October 1946 to current year.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WDR NY-81-2: 1952-77 (M), 1978, 1979-80 (M). WDR-US-2009: Drainage area.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and concrete control. Datum of gage is 2.84 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 1.79 ft above NAVD of 1988 (VERTCON).
REMARKS.--Flow regulated at outlet of Swan Lake. Stage-discharge relation affected by backwater during high tide.
Water Years 2014-24: Records fair except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 77 ft³/s, Aug. 24, 1990, gage height, 2.71 ft; maximum gage height, about 3.6 ft, Oct. 29, 2012, from high-water mark, result of storm tide; minimum discharge, 0.06 ft³/s, Sept. 2, 1964, gage height, 0.02 ft, result of regulation.
