LOCATION.--Lat 38°29'26.1", long 76°55'37.5", Charles County, MD, Hydrologic Unit 02070011, on downstream left side of bridge on State Highway 6, 1.0 mi southeast of Newtown, and 1.7 mi downstream from Kerrick Swamp.
DRAINAGE AREA.--79.9 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--June 1983 to September 2005, October 2006 to current year.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WDR MD-DE-DC-05-1: 2004, WDR-US-2012: 2011.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 34.05 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. June 22, 2017 to September 19, 2019, water-stage recorder at site 60 ft downstream at same gage datum.
REMARKS.--Low flow affected by groundwater diversions from municipal well fields at Waldorf and St. Charles, and occasional farm irrigation upstream from station during summer months. U.S. Geological Survey satellite data-collection platform at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 16,500 ft3/s, September 8, 2011, gage height, 6.81 ft; minimum discharge, 0.0 ft3/s,
no flow at times during 1983, 1985-89, 1991, 1993, 1995-99, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008-16, 2019, 2020.
COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Maryland Geological Survey, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
