LOCATION - Lat 43°06'09", long 70°57'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Strafford County, NH, Hydrologic Unit 01060003, on right bank, 200 ft upstream from Packers Falls and Packer Falls Road, 1.8 mi northwest of Newmarket Town Hall, 2.6 mi southwest of Durham, and 4.6 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 185 mi². from automated delineation using 30-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data and Watershed Boundary Dataset, accessed December 6, 2012 at http://water.usgs.gov/osw/streamstats/.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1231: 1936-37. WDR NH-VT-97-1: 1997 (datum correction). WDR 2012: Drainage Area.

REMARKS - WATER YEAR 2014-17: Records good except those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Some regulation by Pawtuckaway and Mendums Ponds. These reservoirs have a usable capacity of about 600 million ft³. Occasional diversion upstream from station for municipal supply of Durham.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 8,970 ft³/s, May 16, 2006, gage height 18.31 ft (from floodmarks); minimum daily discharge, 0.66 ft³/s, July 27, 1994, during refilling after repairs at Wiswall Dam.
