LOCATION - Lat 35°56'28", long 78°35'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Wake County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03020201, on intake tower 50 ft upstream from Falls Lake dam, and 0.3 mi northwest of Falls and 235 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 771 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers satellite telemetry at streamgage.
COOPERATION - Gage is operated in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

INSTRUMENTATION - Data collection platform (DCP) and heated tipping bucket rain gage collecting data at a 15-minute interval. The DCP is housed in a 6 ft by 6 ft walk-in shelter located on the intake tower 300 ft upstream from the dam. The shelter has reinforced concrete walls, a steel access door, and is maintained by the COE. The heated tipping bucket rain gage is located on the intake tower 20 ft from the walk-in shelter.

INSTRUMENTATION - Design Analysis Associates (DAA) model H-522 data collection platform (DCP) and DAA temperature sensor. Thermometer probe suspended 1.5 feet below the water surface attached to a float on a pulley system that allows the probe to fluctuate with water levels. The assembly is mounted on the north east side of the water intake towers at the dam. Since 2009.
