LOCATION - Lat 31°23'07", long 83°11'36.6" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Berrien County, GA, Hydrologic Unit 03110202, near right bank on downstream side of bridge on GA 50, 2.0 miles east of Alapaha, and 6.0 miles upstream from the confluence with the Willacoochee River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 663 mi².

GAGE - Satellite telemetry with a water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 207.81 feet above the North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) of 1988 (leveling by Global Navigation Satellite System equipment). Prior to September 8, 1943, a non-recording gage was installed, and from September 8, 1943 to September 30, 1975, a recording gage was installed at the same site at a datum that was 1.00 foot higher.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage known since at least 1900, 19.0 feet at present datum, in April 1928, from information by Georgia Department of Transportation; discharge, 16,000 cfs.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge recorded, 15,700 cfs, April 4, 2009; maximum gage height recorded 18.63 feet, April 4, 2009; minimum daily discharge, no flow, July 23, 24, September 1 to November 28, 1954, August 9-23, 1962, June 26, July 8-9, 12-15, 21-25, 2011 and October 23-25, 2014.
