LOCATION - Lat 31°13'18", long 89°03'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.13, T.3 N., R.11 W., Perry County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03170005, St. Stephens Meridian, on left bank at downstream abutment of bridge on State Highway 29, 4.2 mi downstream from Tallahala Creek and 1.4 mi north of courthouse in New Augusta, and at mile 43.6.
DRAINAGE AREA - 2,542 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - December 1983 to current year. Daily mean gage heights published since December 1983.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 71.47 ft above NAVD of 1988, (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) GEOID18).  Prior to October 13, 2023 the datum of gage was 72.00 ft above NGVD of 1929.
REMARKS - 10/01/2014 - 09/30/2015: Estimated daily discharges Dec 10 - 15. Records good, except for estimated data which are poor. Telemeter and satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Floods of February 1961 and April 1974 reached stage of 35.3 ft, discharge, 112,000 ft³/s.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - Water Temperature: Maximum recorded, 34.9 °C, August 4, 2011, but may have been higher during periods of instrument malfunction; minimum recorded, 7.4 °C, January 19,20, 2013, but may have been lower during periods of instrument malfunction.
