  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2023
LOCATION - Lat 41°36'07", long 79°03'01" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Forest County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010003, on right bank at downstream side of highway bridge at Lynch, 500 ft upstream from Bluejay Creek and 7 mi south of Sheffield.
DRAINAGE AREA - 233 mi².

WSP 923: 1939-40; WSP 1955: 1943, 1946-47, 1948 (M), 1952, 1953 (M), 1955-56.

Revisions: Gage height and discharge for the period of 11/2/2019 - 11/5/2019 were revised on January 8, 2021 due to backup field data being added to the database.

PERIOD OF RECORD - 1938-1979, 1981 and 1988-2010 (discharge measurements only), 2011 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1305.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 1,252.0 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to November 16, 2022, the datum was reported as 1,252.43 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS - Maximum peak stage of 11.25 ft on Jan 22, 1959 from flood mark in gage well.  Records are good except for estimated discharge, which are poor.
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 2002 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - August 2012 to current year.
COOPERATION - Water-quality samples were collected as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water-Quality Network (WQN) with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature sensor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.

As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Analyses for pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were performed on site. All other sample analyses were performed at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection laboratory in Harrisburg, PA. Occasionally, values for filtered parameters may exceed values for the corresponding unfiltered parameter. These results are within the limits of analytical precision and methods.

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

Water temperature records for water year 2014 rated good. Water temperature records for water year 2015 are rated fair. Water temperature records for water year 2016 are rated good. Water temperature records for water year 2017 are rated good.

Water temperature records for water year 2018 are rated good.

Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 32.2°C, July 10, 2020; minimum, -0.2°C, January 27, 2021
