LOCATION - Lat 48°11'50", long 97°43'49" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.32, T.155 N., R.55 W., Walsh County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020308, on right bank 50 ft upstream from highway bridge, 0.5 mi downstream from South Branch, and 3 mi southeast of Fordville.
DRAINAGE AREA - 456 mi² of which 120 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--April 1940 to current year.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,036.29 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88, Survey by USGS) and1,035 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29, from topographic map).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

Prior to July 21, 1951, nonrecording gage at site 50 ft downstream at same datum.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2022 water year when record was fair.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

REGULATION.--Some regulation of high flows by temporary retention in several retarding basins above station. Retarding basins have a combined capacity of about 14,000 acre-ft.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow of 16,400 ft³/s on April 18, 1950, from rating curve extended above 5,600 ft³/s on basis of indirect measurement. Maximum peak stage of 14.48 ft on April 18, 1950, from floodmark.
